My choices.
I don't have grand speeches ready. I chose my fabrics, I chose my workshop, I know where everything comes from, and I stand behind every decision.
LA SMOLE is a small brand. I don't have the resources of the giants, I don't have a CSR team, and I'm not claiming to save the planet with a swimwear collection. That would be a lie, and I don't want to lie.
What I can do, on the other hand, is think long and hard about every decision before making it. The fabric choice. The factory choice. The type of packaging. The production volume. The shipping method. Nothing is left to chance, nothing is taken by default, nothing is chosen just because it's the cheapest.
I'd rather be honest about what LA SMOLE actually does than tick boxes to reassure anyone. I'd rather tell you my fabrics are 82% recycled polyamide and 18% virgin elastane, because recycled elastane barely exists at industrial scale, than write "recycled fabric" as a generous rounding. I'd rather say I can't yet and explain why, than wave empty labels around.
This page isn't a manifesto. It's a factual list of what I've chosen, what I refuse, and what I'm still looking to improve.
Recycled Italian fabric
My swimsuits are made from technical Italian jerseys mostly composed of recycled polyamide or recycled polyester, depending on the model.
The elastane that gives them stretch isn't recycled, because the industrial supply chain barely exists at the scale I produce. I'd rather tell you both than write "recycled fabric" and skip over the remaining 10-20%.
The fibers are OEKO-TEX and GRS certified, the colors hold up to chlorine, salt and UV, and the cut doesn't lose its shape after dozens of swims.

Crafted in Portugal
My workshop is in Portugal, specialized in swimwear, working for years with European premium houses.
I chose European proximity over the other side of the world: less transport, more control, a real dialogue with the people sewing my pieces.
I can visit the workshop, I know the people working there, I can go back whenever there's a doubt on a seam or a pattern.
That's impossible 10,000 kilometers away, and I don't see how anyone can claim to make quality without that kind of proximity.
European production
Limited edition, no overproduction
Collection 01 is 250 swimsuits. Eight models, quantities calculated as tight as possible so I don't end up with boxes sitting in a warehouse.
If a model sells fast, great.
If it's sold out, it's sold out, and I'm not restarting production in a rush just to ride the wave.
I'd rather move slowly with pieces I fully stand behind than chase demand with rushed restocks. Overproduction is one of the real problems of the textile industry, and I don't want to start my brand on that.
Zero dead stock
small-bust dedicated patternmaking
I worked with Julia, a freelance patternmaker, and we started from a blank page. No existing pattern, no market baseline: we built every block ourselves, trusting what we knew worked for cups AA to C.
The grading, the volumes, the proportions: everything was designed for our body types.
No foam, no push-up, no removable cups. Our swimsuits hug the bust as it is. The comfort comes from the cut, not the padding.
Built from scratch.
minimal packaging.
Each swimsuit is slipped into an individual zip pouch made of recyclable, reusable plastic, then shipped either in a box cut to its size or in a recycled plastic mailer, depending on the order size.
No oversized box dressed up to look fancy, no unnecessary tissue paper, no ribbons destined for the bin ten seconds after opening, no decorative filler.
Just what it takes to get your order to you safely, and nothing more.

1 order = €1 for clean water
Access to clean water isn't an abstract topic for me. Part of my family lives in Cambodia, where millions of people still don't have access to clean drinking water.
That's why La Smole has partnered with charity: water, an organization that funds clean water projects in 22 countries across Africa and Asia, including Cambodia, with 100% of donations going directly to the projects. For every order placed on lasmole.com, I donate €1 to charity: water. This donation is fully covered by LA SMOLE. It doesn't cost you anything extra.
From April 24, 2026 to December 31, 2026 inclusive, LA SMOLE will donate €1.00 per order placed on lasmole.com to Charity Global (UK) Limited (charity: water UK), a charitable organization registered in England and Wales under number 1169228, which will direct 100% of donations received to clean water access projects. This donation is covered by LA SMOLE, involves no additional cost to the customer, and provides no tax benefit to the customer.
